worked on my machine running 10.5.4 as shown in Disk Utility and Terminal (ls
-al /Volumes/<name of volume>). However, do note that the mounted disk's icon
doesn't show up on the Desktop until I manually select it in Disk Utility and
unmount and mount it in the Disk Utility window. That is a bug! Whether or not
you can work without the icon, is for you to determine. Whether or not you can
figure out the nuances of using diskutil to select, unmount, and remount the
disk image is also left as an exercise. Do note the Disk Utility isn't
scriptable.
