I didn't state it in my post to this list but I have devised a rather complete plan to have all the structural aspects of AE.framework to be available in CoreFoundation. Sketches (at least 3 of them) have been posted to the Carbon list quite some time ago. Anyone familiar with the 'class' hierarchy from AEDesc through AppleEvent can see what a breeze that portion would be. A little more complicated is the added CFNumber types (unsigned ints + special case for OSType), added polymorphic functions, and query API set. However the benefits would be extraordinary considering that the result would be a small but extensible 'class' system expressible in C -- that means deployment possibilities on all major platforms and adaptability to most object- oriented languages.

The actual work of creating a CFScripting framework would be a relatively simple technological feat and wouldn't require Apple to expose their runtime implementation if they didn't want to. In fact I have what is usually called 'proof of concept'.

The problems getting it to be implemented are almost entirely political. But if some big shot at Apple can be convinced that this CoreFoundation addition will reap benefits like their investment in OpenCL <http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/12/20/future_iphones_to_wield_opencl_acceleration.html >, then maybe the current political implementation barrier won't be a problem.
