So, I've just tried to do the same on Tiger, and... it failed (the cause being clearly stated in error_log: Window Server communications from outside of session allowed for root and console user only).

i solved that problem by running my webserver(lighttpd) as the logged-in user, but then i have a dedicated user for my dvr-mini...

another way around it is a no-passwd sudoer entry:

www     ALL=(dvr)      NOPASSWD: /DVR/webAccess/scripts/*.sh

in perusing the sudoers mapage, i came across this gem, which sheds light on the recent attitude wars;-}

 badpass_message
                   Message that is displayed if a user enters an incorrect
                   password. The default is Sorry, try again. unless insults
                   are enabled.
