Yes, but "date" is a data type; that doesn't mean that it is a property of anything in an application; it could be, but it doesn't have to be.


The date of a message is meaningless because a message has two dates: the date sent and the date received. Each of those is of the data type "date".

The Applescript Language Guide tells you about the built-in stuff in Applescript itself, but it doesn't say a thing about any applications, except for those it might use for examples. You need to read the application's dictionary to find out what properties and commands the application contains.
