Yes, this is what I figured, but should it really just be ignoring
"of the user domain"? I would have thought that this would generate
an error, rather than simply being ignored. This is obviously a
rather easy typo to make!

Look at the SE dictionary, I believe SE sees "path to library
folder" and not the rest, thus the result you got.
Mike
Sorry I was wrong.
"path to" goes to SA not SE.
And for SA is "path to blah *from* blah".
Since you wrote "path to blah *of* blah" SA sees "path to" but not
"of" since it does not know how to interpret it.
I believe this should have produced an error. Returning something else
will throw us off.
When you wrote
" tell app "System Events" to path of the library folder of the user
domain", you used "path of", not in the SA dictionary, so SE picked it
up and processed it correctly.
Actually, if Chris (Page) who just asked about improvements, a good
improvement is to allow errors due to bad code to actually error.
Allowing for "loose interpretation" of code is a microsofty way of
doing things, and we all know what happens with browse rendering.
Please let the errors error.
We generally learn a lot from our errors.
Thanks
Deivy
