And you shouldn't ride horses because the grass is green?

A phrase doesn't have to be a proper noun to be suitable for
abbreviation as an initialism; the capitalization in the latter case
is simply to indicate that it is an initialism and not a word. There
is no requirement that the letters be capitalized in the full phrase.
Computer jargon is full of common (as opposed to proper) initialisms:
"PC" for "personal computer", "OS" for "operating system", "GUI" for
"graphical user interface", "CLI" for "command line interface", etc.
