If the goal is to compile a bunch of scripts, won't osacompile do it?

I experimented with using osacompile instead of Script Editor when I wrote Script Bundle Tool a couple of years ago. My recollection is that osacompile did work, but it had a small problem ... it would compile anything, including run-only applications. Script Editor allows me to compile ONLY editable scripts and applications. And I only compile one script at a time so "bunch of scripts" doesn't apply for me.
