  • Thread-topic: EndNote Reference Manager + Skim PDF

Hey folks.

I'm putting together a presentation for a graduate class (for next Tuesday)
where I will be covering the newest EndNote reference manager (for citations
and such) and the open source Skim PDF reader (an excellent application
built on PDFKit, if you haven't checked it out).

I'll be covering basic application integration between Finder+EndNote+Skim
and so I'd be interested in knowing what any of you are doing with all, or a
subset of, those applications (or others, too, perhaps, as related to basic
research management. FileMaker, for instance, could be useful in the mix,
although the university has pretty much abandoned FM for SQL.)

I'm a beta tester for EndNote Mac from Thomson, and I've written a handful
of scripts that take advantage of the (new) AppleScript support in that
application, and I'm curious if others have taken up the use of AS in EN.

Skim has always been scriptable and now there are lots of new opportunities
to move annotations directly into EndNote's research notes, to manage file
movement in the Finder, and to generally interact with EndNote references
from within the application itself (previously, this required using the XML
output of an EndNote export, which, of course, wasn't "live".)

All of that to say: If you're doing work tasks with either or both of those
applications, I'd like to know what you're up to, so that I can share with
Master's and PhD students in a Mac-only seminar session.

Drop me an off-list note, so that we can start a conversation. I'll show
off your work next week, for a bit of inspiration for others.

Best,

Gary
