I'm sure lots of people will chime in with their favorite handlers,
but if you want something right now, fire up Automator -- it's in
your Applications folder -- and build a two-action workflow:
Get Selected Finder Items
Rename Finder Items (Replace Text, find: chk, replace: jpg)
Select all the files, click the Run button in Automator, and there
you are. Depending on how the files are laid out, you might have an
easier time if you change the first action to something like Get
Selected Finder Items followed by Get Folder Contents.
One of the reasons I stopped using Automator and just writing
completely in AS (besides that Automator is a pig) is that "Get
Selected Finder Items" works all too well (at least on Leopard) such
that it will return files that are selected in a finder window that
isn't active. That burned me big time once! I had selected some finder
items and forgot about it because the window was hidden, then later in
another finder window selected some more finder items, but "Get
Selected Finder Items" got them all! -- not just the ones I intended
in the active finder window. I will never use "Get Selected Finder
Items" ever again. It's evil.
