Cool! So how do those OSA components work behind the scenes - does
a new interpreter get started each time the component is called?
Yes -- except for TclOSA which should only create a new interp for a
different host process.
Does ( run script "foo" in "sh" ) differ significantly from ( do
shell script "foo" )?
If you open up the example droplet scripts (after the component for it
is installed) you'll see that you just enter the script mostly as you
would normally in the designated language. So generally there's no
awkward quoting to deal with. Things are tightening up with Leopard
and Unicode requirements though.
Perhaps some anomalies will show up in the areas where the language
itself has UI capabilities but the non-UI portions seem to be working
fine for Leopard so far. For instance, I think they are being used in
this Prograph variant: <http://www.andescotia.com/products/marten/>.
