Dial Phone

  • Subject: Dial Phone
  • From: Luther Fuller <email@hidden>

About a month ago I asked about dialing the phone from Address Book.
I haven't had time to look into phone dialing until this week.
Someone suggested Internet Connect. It works, but it's slow.
Internet Connect uses the pppd command, which lead me to the chat command.
I hope someone reading this is an expert in using chat.

I tried a simple experiment ...

try
	"chat -s '' ATI4 "
	do shell script the result
on error errText number errNr
	"Error = " & errNr & return & errText
end try
display dialog the result

All I get is ... Error 2: Can't get terminal parameters: Operation not supported by device
Variations on this theme return variations on the error message.
The ATI4 command ought to return modem information.
What I need is a command that will detect if a modem is present, then dial a number, then hangup.
Any experts around?
