Installing an AppleScript into Photoshop CS3 Menu

I cannot seem to get AppleScripts (using .scpt extension) into the Scripts menu of Photoshop CS3. JavaScripts (using the .jsx extension) will show up when installed into Presets > Scripts in the Photoshop application folder.

Do they need to be called from a JavaScript? And if so, what is the equivalent syntax to do script?
