(Personally, I've never been a fan of the sea shell. I prefer the
corn shell... which should perhaps have been called "husk".)

It is a serious problem though. A rough outline of the project:
• Develop some submersible plastic "sniffers" -- probably done with a
variant of gallium nitride lasers.
• Outfit a bunch of barges with them.
• Have the barges run on auto-pilot around the area scooping up the
plastic when detected and return to home port when full -- this is the
sea-shell scripting controlled GPS to rudder stuff.
The hard part for me is to come up with the mechanical design for the
scoop. Has to be such that it doesn't harvest a significant amount of
sea life in the process…
