My opinion remains that Michelle added the space after "the" where it was not intended. She's very helpful and appreciated, but she might well have added to the problem this time. It's amusing that she had to add the quote marks to be sure we knew what her English-like comment was all about.
Syntax coloring surely makes sense as do Chris' other suggestions for using programmer idioms like "theWhatever".

But be sure the word the has a space before it and after it.
