I must often use this trick because, as a French user, I often pass strings with Unicode characters which are not treated correctly by keystroke.

Even standard characters may give odd results.
For instance, I am re-installing my operating system (I just received, at last, my new internal drive) so the OS is the original 10.4 and, on the French version, keystroking a "i" or a "I" give a "q" or a "Q".
Pasting is free of this oddity which was only cured with 10.4.10.
