Are you using Spaces? Maybe the dialog was in another space. An "activate" command will solve the problem, as Joe suggested...

No, I don't have Spaces turned on, although that is a good thought. 'Activate' will work, but since I don't want to have to activate Address Book to run this script, the better workaround for me is simply to put the 'Choose from List' call outside Address Book's tell block. As an aside, using "Display Dialog" in Address Book's tell block causes a similar problem. And if you have to activate Address Book, that kind of defeats the benefit of not having applications launch without specifically doing so with a script in Leopard.
