as alias bug?

Major Tom to Ground Control:

I have no directory "/net" on my machine.

try

set fpath to (path to startup disk as text) & "net"

set falias to fpath as alias

on error errs

display dialog errs

end try

--> alias "net:"

Can anyone duplicate this result?
