Since I don't know how you actually wrote the super & subscript into
your documents, I don't know if there's a pattern that you can search
for. And, if you have never used AppleScript before, there will be a
long tedious learning period.
I also teach mathematics, and my advice on mathematical text is ...
use TeX. Scientific and mathematical text are very difficult to
impossible for common word processors to handle. I recommend Textures
version 2.2.0b6 from Blue Sky TeX Systems <http://www.bluesky.com/>.
It works very well with OS X.
There is a "long tedious learning period" for TeX, too. Perhaps longer
than for AppleScript. Also, TeX is not wysiwyg ... you write source
code which is compiled into a typeset document which can be saved as
pdf.

I have never used scripts and do not know if I should be sending
this. But, I need help.
Long ago I used Microsoft Works 3 and the font Princeton to do my
teaching of science and math.
Princeton was great as it allowed me to type sub and superscripts
without using a menu.
But, that was pre OS X.
Now I am trying to convert my documents to pages.
All my sub and superscripts have changed to nonsense symbols.
I have tried 'find/replace' but I cannot put sub or superscripts in
the replace part.
It seems that I will have to change each one individually which
would take me months.
Can I use an apple script to simplify my problem??
I would appreciate any help out there.
