My own mail both was sent *and came back from the mailing list* with
charset="ISO-8859-1", and encoded as quoted-printable, that knows
how to
encode chevrons. I see chevrons in my message that came back from
the list.
It's only in your message that I see them replaced (in my quoted
text) by
question marks.
Could the problem be in the software that creates the digest?
