Be sure the client has a chance to test. If the eventual aim, after
all of the e-mailing, is a paste back into a spreadsheet you should
never have two consecutive tabs unless a blank cell between them is
intended. Excel handles multiple spaces as 1 but one does have to
work harder than for the single tab case.
If the aim is just to make it all look pretty in the e-mail remember
that readers often default to proportional fonts. If HTML e-mail is
acceptable conversion to <TR> and <TD> might make more sense than
multiple spaces.
And 998 characters in a line is acceptable to an RFC-compliant mail
transport agent using SMTP.
