I was going on the assumption that he needed the number for some reason.
Well, yes, but I've seen a lot of people ask for code based on invalid assumptions. This way, you learn how to do something that will probably be useful eventually, and you learn why it might be best to not use it right now. Question about your code. Why not this:
set current printer to printer (get item 1 of the result)
Because I presume that there are newbies who might be thrown by combining the operations like that. Your version also works, of course.
