Bad Characters in a File Name

  • Subject: Bad Characters in a File Name

Following up on the Bad Characters we discussed last week, I have done some testing to determine which characters might be a problem in a file name.

If you try to copy & paste a string into a file name via the Finder and the string contains any one of the characters in the character id range [0 ... 31], the Finder will reject the file name. You just can't do it.

For characters in the range [127 ... 159], you CAN use them in a file name. (These are the Bad Characters from last week.)

I've tried to search for Apple documents with information on any prohibited characters, but found nothing.
Does anyone know where I might find this info?
