Did you attach it to each folder individually, or a single top level folder
that contains the 600+ folders?

I attached them individually by using a script.

I actually hoped I could attach to the including folder and have the folder action apply to the included folders, but couldn't find a way to do that. How to?

Also, per advice (thanks all!) I have tightened up the script and substituded a "list folder" command for the "tell" to System Events, but the speed is still glacial.
