Delete file type

Title: Delete file type
I want to make an addtion to the beginning of a script that will delete any aliases found on the desktop.  

So far I have

Tell application “finder”
    delete (every file of folder desktop whose item alias)
End tell


But that errors out saying “Finder got an error: Can’tt make desktop into type interger.”
