Time Machine does mount the disk. The icon sits on the desktop while

I'm trying to write code that will open (mount), write, then eject

Time Machine opens, writes, then closes a .sparsebundle file when
it backs up. I don't use Time Machine, so I have to ask ...
Question: While Time Machine is backing up, is there a disk mounted
on the desktop from a .sparsebundle file?
If not, then perhaps there is a way to write to a sparsebundle file
without mounting its disk. (?)
