Just to backstep a bit, I'm curious, now that Spotlight has had a chance to fully index your files, are the search results more complete?

If you're saving email files, and they are mostly plain text, Spotlight might do just fine without indexing and indexing would be pretty quick. However if your files have lots of attachments that include various file formats (Word, Excel, Quark, PDFs) then Spotlight will be pretty helpless until everything is indexed.

They are email files, emlx with attachments, definitely not plain text. Every email I've sent or received over the past 5 years in a sparsebundle. I click a button once a day which adds a few more files. I've been experimenting with adding Saved Searches to the sparsebundle to act as Smart Mailboxes. It seems to work, but the indexing must be complete. I'll do more experimenting after Snow Leopard is installed.

(Have you ever noticed that when you open a saved search, you don't see the search criteria until you have clicked some buttons. Kind of lame!)
