Oakley, you can see the output of the command

system_profiler in terminal.

If you run 

system_profiler SPSerialATADataType

in terminal or AS, you will get information for all the bays. 
Nothing really specifies which one is the boot volume, but you can get all available.
I have not tested to know if the command will output the boot volume first in all cases.
