I'm a very-long-time user of QuicKeys Roy and I think the
recently-released 4.0 is a real high point in its history. It had a
reasonably lengthy beta period and the new UI is much improved.
AppleScript support is good and passing of variable data back and
forth between QK and AppleScript is reasonably straightforward and you
can use abbreviations to trigger a text expansion or a script. So from
me, a recommendation.
