I don’t know why it isn’t full-screen, but as a side note, you should definitely prefer your second script over the first. Tell the application directly to activate, rather than telling Finder to open it. There’s no need to involve Finder. And if you’re going to send an “open” event, prefer sending it to System Events instead of Finder.
