Not strange at all. Modification date is a HFS thing. No other linux
based file systems have a concept of "Creation date".
There are tools you can use to get the creation date. mdls will list
the metadata for a file which will show kMDItemContentCreationDate.
stat <filename> returns the creation date as column 8.
