To split hairs even further, Smile is not available on *any*
Macs by default. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Although it could be argued that there *is* something wrong with the fact that several of the functions Satimage.osax provides aren't available via AppleScript in a default install. Wanting to sort a list or change the case of some text, for example -- they're not exactly obscure requirements.

And I'm not sure that the idea of having third-party additions installed by default, even if in a place where they're not activated by default, is so outrageous in a system where there are several gigabytes of print drivers of sometimes dubious quality installed on behalf of third parties.

I agree with Shane's comments.

So do I.
Why do I need all the languages of the world (it is Apple I know) and all printers drivers and not something that is more useful.
Besides, if I do not know who is this Emmanuel guy and what is this Smile thing, the inclusion of the software by Apple will certainly give me more confidence on both.
Another point is Smile will include functionalities in my machine that are tremendously useful.
I am sure that other people would agree with me.
This would make Macs more attractive for certain environments, research institutions for instance.
