I looked in com.apple.textedit.plist

but many prefs aren't stored in it.
For instance, the default format (text versus Rtf) is not stored in this file.

Seems to be:

	defaults read com.apple.TextEdit RichText

on my setup (Mac OS X 10.5.7).
