Hi Oakley,

Yvan's suggestion is a good one. Be aware that System Events won't delete a
file that is busy (open in an app) and, unfortunately, neither will it
generate an error in that case. It just silently skips over the command. (In
OS X 10.5.7, anyway.)

The Finder, however, doesn't seem to care* and will dutifully move a busy
file to the trash. (I usually prefer System Events over the Finder, but
obviously not in this case.)

I do have another suggestion for you--upgrade to Excel 2008. The "save as"
command in 2008 has an "overwrite" parameter that functions as expected.

HTH,
Stan C.
