Incorrect. A mac application may or may not create the creator and file type
metadata. It is no longer a requirement, and in fact, using other
identification metadata such as UTI's is being promoted over the older File
Type and creator codes, with good reason. Which is more obvious as a MS Word
open xml file:
MSWD/WXBN
or
com.microsoft.word.openxml.document

They're not resources anymore, they're file metadata.

And is being deprecated for UTIs. If anyone is relying on the old OS 9 file
identification metadata, they need to start moving towards UTIs and/or
extensions.
