An easy check is to set a custom icon for a file and the use 'cp'. The custom icon is copied on my setup (10.5.7/Intel).


Use 'ditto --norsrc …' if you don't want resource forks copied. But what which MacOS version it is being called from because as Chris Nebel already noted, it's default setting for resource forks was changed on 10.4.
