Title: Re: Changing File Permissions
Chris,
You can use the command:
chmod 777 /Users/[user name here]/[folder name here]/*
You can the set it up to repeat as often as you like or (if you have it) Apple Remote Desktop can be used to send the command via a scheduled UNIX command.

Hi everyone
I haven’t used applescript or automator very much, but I started looking at it to see if I could resolve a problem that we have in our office.
We run multiple macs on a network with an osx10.5 server.
In our office we hold all files in a common directory on our server so that they are accessible to everyone. However whenever someone creates a new subfolder or document the permissions for that file default to only allow read & write access for the owner (creator).
Every so often when a staff member can’t access a file we go to the server, select the highest level directory folder and go into get info and change the permissions to read and write for everyone and apply to enclosed items. This resolves the problem until the next time.
I’d like to have a little app that would run every day to change all the permissions. Then we wouldn’t have this problem so frequently. I tried using automator to do it – but it would always get stuck at the last step – where it would require user input to provide an admin users password.
Can anyone suggest anything that would help?
Regards
Chris
