Is there a prize for breaking the barrier? ;-)

FWIW, I tried your script and got only 15517 first time, but the next two
times I got 65535 (2^16 - 1). Similar when I changed it to use System
Events.

I then tried running two copies in Script Debugger and two in Script Editor
at the same time. Curiously, one of them actually passed the barrier. I
presume it got lucky and just managed to avoid sending the particular events
that got dropped.
