I'd echo Ed's suggestion here. Unless you're really keen on dealing with the
command line issues referenced by others, I'd go with Graphic Converter.
It's not just applescriptable - it's one of the most scriptable apps and one
the best dictionaries of any app. GC is extremely versatile, and anything
you can do in the UI you can do by script. It's also very inexpensive. (I
have not tried the particular function you've asked for, but I think you can
get a trial version and try it out.
