We tested with both French, German and

Confirmed, under 10.5.8 with no third party osaxen. Nothing to do with
Finder.app though.
Switching to dutch, (re)launching Script Editor, having it execute display
dialog "hullo wurld", the dialog shows a single(!) close button in the top
left corner of the dialog's window. Clicking that button closes the dialog,
but Script Editor apparently never receives that event; considers the script
to still be running and can only be Forced Quit.
