Yes, but that doesn't explain why some apps return 13 and others return 10.

ASCII number of linefeed --> 10
ASCII number of return --> 13
ascii number of "
" --> 10
proves that the editor (AppleScript Editor) inserts a linefeed character when you type return.
Other editors behave differently.
