Do you also happen to know if it's possible to get the text from a chart off a PowerPoint slide using AppleScript?

smartArt is a particular type of 'shape'. Unfortunately, the text within this shape does not appear to be accessible to AppleScript.
Can I suggest you send a suggestion to MS to include this feature by using the 'Send Feedback' link under the Help menu in PowerPoint. They really do listen!
