The newest version is the base version going forward, but it currently
has far fewer features than QT7 Player, especially it has none of the
features of QT Pro. QT X also cannot play 'legacy' codecs (e.g
Sorenson), nor can you copy/paste tracks together to, for example,
join to clip together.
