Title: Help please with ASS and Snow Leopard
Hi
First time user of the mailing lists, so looking forward to sharing ideas and feedback.
Heres my problem and I would welcome some ideas and opinions. I will try to keep it short and concise.
History...
The company I work for is extensively automated by AppleScripts and AppleScript Studio applications.
Currently we run OSX 10.4 and have written our scripts under xcode 2.4 and built the interfaces with ASS in interface builder.
These scripts access a wide variety of third party software, such as Filemaker, Adobe CS, Quark etc etc.
Time to upgrade to Intel Macs and OSX 10.6.
Current…
At the moment I am recompiling under xocde 3.0 and Leopard. Applescript dictionary syntax has changed somewhat for various applications,
such as Quark 8 as opposed to Quark 6, but it works. You can still refer to an Applescript in xcode from interface builder from the ASS tab,
much the same as the older versions.
Snow Leopard...
OSX Snow Leopard has depreciated ASS. How do I rewrite an ASS project in xcode under OSX 10.6?
I am aware that I can turn on ASS using Terminal, but it seems that certain code instructions don't work correctly anymore.
For example under 10.6 the applescript "Tell QuarkXpress (8.1)" "Open file xxxxx" fails with error. However it works perfectly under 10.5.
Can I write ASS under OSX 10.6? and if so how?
Does this mean due to the introduction of AppleScriptObjC I should be learning Objective C instead and then rewriting my ASS projects with ObjC?
What to do?
Any advice from the greater good of the mailing lists would be very welcome.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
Cheers
Nick.
