Actually, System Events had something like 'key pressed' similar to
what Jon's had. I found this out in Panther when Apple took it away
but my folder actions kept working and found out later it was because
I had Jon's installed. However, Jon's stopped working under Intel...
ExtraSuites continued but the nag and liscensing scheme became
awkward so I abandoned the approach.

I believe that was from Jon's Commands and that hasn't been updated
for Intel. I believe it still works in Tiger and maybe in Snow
Leopard on a PPC, but definitely not on SL or any intel mac.

Just wondering if anyone knows why Apple took away the 'keys
pressed' listening capability back in Panther? I sure miss it. Now
it looks like there are no scripting addition capabilities left at
all in SnowL.
