There are two check boxes, "Shared folder" and "Ignore ownership on
this volume".
I think you mean the latter. On my data partition, this should be
checked. Not having it checked caused me much grief a couple of weeks
ago. I just looked at it and found that it has reverted to unchecked,
so I checked it.
On the external startup FW drive, this box is checked, but on the
current internal startup drive, it's not shown. Starting up from the
external drive, I find that this box is unchecked.
