Big Cat[*] let's you pass selections to scripts through the contextual menu,
but only works in Carbon apps. So that might provide what you're looking for.
However, crossplatform apps (like Firefox) tend to at best visually be 'real
Mac apps'. It may very well be that it uses 'non-standard' ways to draw text,
in which case other tools cannot work with it.
