Good point. But it wasn't an assumption, it was an option — one of
two I provided. In any case, it depends on the constraints of the
target system. Even apps with French UI's sometimes have to write to
systems that only speak ASCII.
Clearly the full power of Mac file/folder names is not acceptable,
but I don't know what the other restrictions are since the original
code used a blacklist — a clearly only partial blacklist, in Unicode
terms — instead of a whitelist. So I provided for two variants of
one possibility I deemed most likely, namely alphanumerics plus
underscore.
