A couple minor corrections, since I can't help being pedantic even
towards myself :)

The direction of change in magnitude of the difference between the
calendars actually depends when you are. Currently, the difference
between the two calendars is increasing, and will continue to do so
forever. So if you count backwards, the difference decreases. But
only until they agree with each other - which they do for the period
from March 1st, 200 to February 28, 300. As you go back earlier than
that, the difference starts increasing again, just in the other
direction (with the Julian dates later than the Gregorian ones).

To clarify: China never officially used the Julian calendar. They
used their native lunisolar calendar instead; after the revolution
they officially adopted the Western calendar, and sensibly skipped
straight to the Gregorian version.
