Apparently not. AppleScript seems to use the earliest date of
Gregorian adoption (Friday, October 5 O.S./15 N.S., 1582),
irrespective of locale settings:

((date "10/15/1582") - (date "10/4/1582"))/days -- 1.0

So if, for example, you're dealing with dates out of English or
American history, AppleScript will get weekdays and intervals wrong
for the 170-year period from October 5, 1582 through September 13,
1752.
