So why did you stop at just English and American? ;-)

FWIW, AppleScriptObjC takes all the fun out of this sort of thing:

current application's NSNumberFormatter's
localizedStringFromNumber_numberStyle_(287654321, current application's
NSNumberFormatterSpellOutStyle)
